Introduction

Welcome to the Compendium of Teacher Learning and Exploration in Arts Assessment. This compendium represents K-12 specialist and generalist teachers from across California. This online tool exists to showcase examples of teacher and student work in the arts. During 2009-10, teachers were purposefully chosen for this project based on their innate abilities as great teachers. While some teachers were well-versed in designing formative and summative assessments within their curriculum, some were new to the assessment process. What is exciting is that all the teachers indicated that they learned new aspects of assessment while involved in the program. We thank all the teachers who participated in this program.

In the compendium, teachers' documented pages are sorted by discipline, grades, and teacher names. This work contributes to the efforts to address the California Arts Education Strategic Task Force Recommendation on Assessment of Student Learning to encourage the state to develop district assessment of student learning in the arts. In you would like more information regarding the ongoing work of this program, please feel free to contact regional arts leads and/or CCSESA Arts Initiative Director, Sarah Anderberg, or CCSESA Arts Consultant, Patty Taylor.

We invite you to step into the classrooms of these teachers representing diverse settings and student populations. Take a look at student work, video documentation of learning projects, and teacher/student reflections!
