Background Information

In 2008-09 the CCSESA Arts Initiative regional leads from all 11 service regions in California and their arts education partners participated in an ongoing statewide professional learning community focused on elementary visual and performing arts learning and assessment. These sessions were facilitated by Kennedy Center consultant Deb Brzoska, a leading expert in arts assessment.

As an extension of the professional learning community, regional leads created customized arts learning projects with teachers. The projects included participation in one of three area seminars provided in 2009-10 and hosted by the regional county offices of education listed below:

• Northern-Shasta County Office of Education

• Central-Sacramento County Office of Education

Regional 3 Lead: Maureen Gemma

• San Diego County Office of Education

Region 9 Lead: Ron Jessee
