Online Compendium Leadership

CCSESA provided funding to San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) to facilitate the work of creating an Online Compendium of Teacher Learning and Exploration in Arts Assessment under the skilled direction of Ron Jessee, Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator and Region 9 Arts Lead. Dr. Patti Saraniero of Moxie Research was brought aboard as the principal assessment expert. The Ed Tech Productions team at SDCOE, led by Grace Ko, production coordinator, created online tools for teachers to contribute to over time. Teachers captured information about themselves, their students, and the processes involved in implementing an arts learning and assessment project in their classrooms.

The goal was to allow teachers to start from where they were in the journey of implementing authentic, classroom-based curriculum and assessments. What was paramount in this process was mining the VOICE OF THE STUDENT and the impact that the arts have on their learning. The program culminated at the statewide CCSESA Arts Initiative Arts Learning Colloquium in May 2010 where teachers used a protocol to demonstrate the enormous positive impact this project had on their own teaching and on their students.
