Actors' Equity

The site provides information for union members, news, (casting notices) events, links to related sites, and membership services. Within the Actor's Equity Web page a wonderful career resource is the "Casting Call" section. Although primarily for the Equity actor, the section provides job openings for actors and stage managers. Here students can obtain current information about job openings in their area or anywhere in the country. Search categories include "types of notice" (Equity principal, Equity chorus, non-required principal, non-required chorus, or stage manager). Other categories include "state" or "by contract." This is a good primer for the actor looking for job opportunities.
Academy of Television Arts and Sciences-Internships

Internships include work in most aspects of the television production industry. Every summer the Academy places 30 students in internships in the Los Angeles area. Summer internships are filled during the spring. Students should check site in winter and early spring for information.

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts

"One of America's Top 100 Internships" - The Princeton Review. Wolf Trap internships are designed for undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of one year of study (or the equivalent), graduate students, recent graduates, and career-changers currently enrolled in a degree program. Wolf Trap internships are 12 weeks long, full-time (40-plus hours per week) in the summer, and part-time (maximum of 24 hours per week) in the fall and spring; however, the duration and hours required may vary. International students are invited to apply. College credit may be available through a student's university. There is a stipend to help offset housing and transportation expenses. Arts Recognition & Talent Search: ARTS Awards

The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts provides scholarships to deserving performing arts students nationally. A variety of awards are available through their Arts Recognition and Talent Search program. It should be noted that these scholarships are HIGHLY selective, VERY competitive, and there is a FEE to apply. ARTS applicants are also eligible to receive additional scholarship money and stipends from colleges participating in their Scholarship List Service. Awardees may be nominated to the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the Music for Youth Foundation. NFAA also makes financial support available through Fellowships in the Visual Arts, Astral Career Grants, and Career Development programs.

University of California ArtsBridge Scholarships

The University of California ArtsBridge program provides scholarships of up to $3,000 per year and hands-on opportunities for talented, energetic UC students to become "artists-in-residence," bringing arts education to schools and other community venues. Originally created on the UC Irvine campus in 1996, University of California student-scholars bring drama productions, instrumental workshops, musical theatre, photography, painting, dance, and storytelling classes to local schools as well as to other community-based institutions such as libraries and hospitals. The ArtsBridge program is open to all majors and minors at all eight UC campuses and two California State University campuses: CSU Long Beach and CSU Sacramento.

Idyllwild Arts

Founded as the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts in 1950, the program in the mountains of Southern California (now known as Idyllwild Arts) has provided a visionary program of visual and performing arts for young students and adults. In 1986, the Idyllwild Arts Academy opened as the first arts boarding school for students grades 8-12 in the western U.S. Visitors to the site should choose from the "Academy" button for information about the boarding school program. Those who are interested in the outstanding summer programs offered for families and students of all ages should choose the "Summer" button. Idyllwild Arts is known for its Native American Arts and Archeology program (listed under Special Programs and Festivals) which celebrates Native American art and artists. The American Experience program would be of interest to international students wishing to enrich their command of English while studying the arts. Students enrolled in arts programs at UC Irvine can gain a real-world experience as arts educators in the classroom by receiving an ArtsBridge Scholarship. The ArtsBridge Program sends selected UC students to teach workshops at local schools in dance, drama, visual art, digital art, music, and video under the direction of a supervising teacher. Students can try on the roles of arts educators and provide a service to schools by enhancing the arts experience of students.
